Recommend trainer

Weather is getting crappier and its getting darker earlier. I should probably just HTFU, but i don’t want to get hit by a car riding my bike around late at night.
Can someone recommend a bike trainer for <200 bucks?
What do you guys have?

im trying to decide between:
(blackburn fluid trainer vs travel trac vs other?)

or should i pony up more money for something better? plan to ride 3 hours/week

I did quite of bit of shopping and research on this topic recently. I settled on the Kurt Kinetic Road Machine (which I am happy with), but in your price range I found some concensus that the CycleOps Mag trainer was good, at about $170.

kk road machine. Call up Tom D. @ bikesport michigan and see if he still has the ST deal going on.

If you can pony up $300 I would recommend the 1upusa CPR-A-2000. It’s got a lifetime warranty, it’s well built, easy to use, great customer service etc. I’ve got one and I love it. I ride a trainer 4-5 days a week. I actually wore out my first flywheel. I gave them a call and that week I had a new flywheel with absolutely no hastle or cost.

There’s a KK Road Machine for $255 ($299 but you get 15% off) with free shipping if you want to drop just a bit more. I love mine! And this “demo” still has the factory lifetime warranty.

Good luck and happy hunting!

I’m going to somehow hijack this thread, but what about rollers?

I’m on the market myself, and the roadies I ride with told me to get rollers, with resistance. They like it because you need to focus on balance (work your core), plus no awkward spinning, etc. It’s true that the few trainers I’ve been on, pedaling was weird. What is your take on this? Is the resistance option really needed, or small drums are enough? I intend to do WO (1h-1h30) with intervals on it, so I need some form of resistance, adjustable or not. Or should I just get a regular trainer?

Rollers look like fun. Unless you eat your rug.

+1 on the 1up USA. I was on mine 5 days a week over the winter. Absolutely awesome

I like the 1up trainer as well. Now I have the emotion rollers and nothing tops it. A bit pricey, but worth it.

get a kurt road machine, I have two

trust me on this, one of them has 15k miles, no joke - they are the bomb
.

great thanks for the advice…
seems like its either kurt kinetic or 1up.
so i went with the cheaper one.
kurt kinetic for 255 shipped.
thanks!

Look into Cycleops Magneto… best trainer on the market if you ask me. Feels smoother than my KK and way less noisy than any fluid trainer. It will handle a lot of wattage as well, and is about $50 cheaper than fluid models.

+1 for the Kurt Kinetic Road Machine. It’s bulletproof. I only parted ways with mine because I bought a Computrainer.

As others have said, don’t pay MSRP. There are numerous places that sell them at a lower price.
