I am already sick and tired of winter. Every year I seem to lose the little tolerance I have for cold weather. The Metrodome no longer exsists so the rest of the Vikings season is gonna suck (not only the team, but the weather too). I need a jacket that is WARM yet easy to move in.
Last week I froze my ass off during the Gopher/ Hawkeye football game. I wore a thermal undershirt, a light weight under armour compression shirt, a heavy Nike turtle neck compression a columbia fleece jacket, an under armour hoodie and my Columbia winter jacket. I was still cold!!
Canada Goose makes great jackets - they are often issued by various Canadian Police and Ranger outfits, and often used by polar expeditions. While they are a very good product they are also quite en vogue right now. Its the ‘must have’ winter jacket for the rich and snotty, so the prices are quite high (expect to pay over $750 for a jacket)
I personally like Ski Jackets for winter - Couloir, Spyder, Descente, North Face all make a good product.
PS - you froze your ass off because your butt was sitting on a cold outdoor seat that was conducting all your heat away. In Canada we have waterproof cushions that are well insulated and used for sitting on cold surfaces when watching games or ice fishing. Or get Snowboarder pants with an insulated ass pad.
Arcteryx. Where is chain pin to back me up on this? REI is having their member sale on the 14th. 20% off a nice coat
They lost me me when they went from overpriced to way overpriced. Same jacket 300% increase in price one year later. Couldn’t compete in the regular market so they went “high end” but didn’t change the product.
I’m a big fan of Carhartt work clothes. One of my warmest coats is a standard duck brown heavy jacket. For a lighter weight the warmest jacket I have ever owned is a Helly Hansen fleece. Similiar to the North Face ones you see everywhere but it’s incredibly warm for a light jacket. They can be spendy though.
That under my Carhartt with a t-shirt and sweater and I’ll brave most cold easily below 0.
Don’t forget good quality boots and a hat. I firmly believe in spending money on boots as you get what you pay for.

When you say “I was still cold” what do you mean exactly? I would find it very hard to believe that in all that your chest/arms were cold.
Hey I have a couple zippo hand warmers that are amazing, I plan on bringing those to tcf stadium to the packers game.
Have you used them yet? I got some this year, but, have not used them yet. Will use at the next game. Trying to figure out whether they can go in hoodie pockets buried under a couple layers of outerwear, or whether they will need more oxygen to stay lit.
Down from a reputable manufacturer. REI/LL Bean should be plenty good enough.
I like to layer like a mofo. Since my wife got me into Lululemon I’ve grown fond of their sleeves. First, they are long enough for my long-ass arms. Second, they often come with thumb holes. I put on a pair of lightweight gloves, slip them through the thumb holes, then a pair of gloves, slip the thumb through another later, end with a pair of lobster-claw mittens. With all that inter-locking there is no wrist air leakage.
If you’re really desperate, I read on this board that Tom Brady wears a Desoto wetsuit top when it gets ass-cold. Apparently it keeps him warm and he can still move.

Ive had them for 3 winters already. I love them. I always keep them in my jacket pockets and that way they warm my core and are easily accessible when I want them for my hands. Sometimes I put them inside my mittens for a bit if I really need them.
I have one that is from another manufacturer that is about 5xs larger than the zippos. That one puts off more fumes and I rarely use it unless we go sledding with the kids. A couple kids can warm themselves with it at the same time.
Definitely use premium fuel for them. It makes a difference from my experience
I have a down Eddie Baur down jacket I ordered from them, it works great. I think they are much better priced compared to Patagonia, North Face, etc. Mine was about $60 its 800 fill down. Just wish I paid the extra money to get one with a hood.
I had on heavy under armour running tights and jeans, wool socks and some boots. My entire body was cold.
I opted not to wear snow pants. Bad idea. The wind at that place is a motherf**er.
