I have wide hobbit feet and need a bigger toe box. I just got the Louis Garneau Tri Speed 2009 (size 43, I wear a Brooks Adrenaline 9.5, EE running shoe) and so far really like them. The price was great (115). I have only had them for one week so can not speak to durability. I have done a 100mi ride in them already and did not have the usual pain/discomfort.
FYI - I have a pair of the Sidi carbon tri shoes size 46 worn 1 time that I am looking to move out. I have the specialized and like them very much. Best wishes,
You may have seen my other post but I just can’t say enough about the new Bontrager Hilo for someone with wide feet. I wear a 12.5EE running shoe, have struggle with cycling shoes for a long time til I got the Hilos. They have plenty of room for me, I tried everything except North Wave before these. I have about 800 sockless miles in the Hilos and love them. Feel like they have made me stronger on the bike. I wore 47 sidi mega but constantly struggled with hotspots and numbness, wearing the 47 Hilos did 106 miles saturday with absolutely no foot problems.
I’ve liked my Carnac’s over the years - easier-than-average cleat alignment and nice & roomy in the toe box, among other things. Now it seems cycling / triathlon web stores don’t seem to carry them – and Ochsner USA is having a closeout for Carnac shoes. Has the company gone belly up overall?
I just bought a pair of Shimanos. Nice fit, price was right. My only complaint is that the strap is backwards and presses down to the inside. Not a problem so far, but in time as the velcro wears, I can see the strap rubbing the chain.
Anyway, so far about 100 miles on them and they feel perfect. I also looked at the Bontrager RXL and they were nice but the silver looks like it will get worn quickly and they’re maybe a little too flamboyant for my taste. Nice fit, though. I live in the western suburbs of Chicago and went to 5 stores including Endure It in Naperville before I finally found these at Prairie Path Cycles in Winfield. You’re right, slim pickings out here.
specialized are fantastic. The bontragers aren’t bad but they are super pimped out with mirrors and stuff. Next are Mavic/Addidas…a solid choice. Shimano makes a good tri shoe. The Sidis are pretty good but cost a lot.
X2 have the 2008 model and got them on sale from onetri.com. Awesome shoe and have no complaints about them at all. Ride w/ them sockless all the time expect when it gets cold out…
