Recommend a diet plan for newbies

Looking for diet plans for newbies…i know this may be tough for some of the vets on the board as i’m sure their eating habits are second nature…

Not looking for anything fancy, just something that you could easily eat daily…thanks

Basics of nutrition for athletes…

Most meals should be composed primarily of lean meats, fruits, and vegetables.

Consume concentrated carbohydrates … bread, cereal, pasta, potatoes, corn, sugar, rice … primarily at post-workout. Minimize consumption of these foods at meals that aren’t post-workout (get carbohydrate from fruits and vegatables at normal meals).

Post-workout feedings should include water, concentrated carbohydrates and some protein.

Make sure to get significant protein at every meal, especially breakfast. That’s the meal at which we tend to get no nutrition except carbohydrate calories.

An excellent resourse is a book called The Paleo Diet for Athletes, by Joe Friel and Loren Cordain, which should be released within one month from now.

Ken

Excellent summary, Ken. I would add the guiding concept of sticking to nutritionally-dense, as opposed to calorie-dense foods.

I read and benefited from the Paleo Diet and look forward to the new edition for athletes.

Are you saying my breakfast of Cheetos, Saltines, a Butterfinger and a Mountain Dew isn’t going to cut it?

are you sure we don’t work in the same office  I see people eating that breakfast (or small variation) in my office every day. But of course, they can’t figure out why the have the exta gut or feel like crap every day.

I’m eating my breakfast in my stateroom on a Navy ship, so…not the same office, and an entirely different set of reasons for gaining weight and feeling like crap most days.

Whats a diet?

Best “diet” I ever heard on TV is to just follow a skinny person and be like them. I know I can eat as much of anything that I want, but I do a couple of things. I never overfill my plate. I never go back for seconds. I never eat junk food. I eat 3 balanced meals a day. I exercise about an hour a day. Seems very very easy to me. If you do not put it between the teeth, seems tough to have it stick to the bones.
