Right, but it was a structural issue with the steerer. It was far heavier than anything out there, it simply didn’t handle the Roubaix cobbles well. While it was a “catastrophic failure” it wasw more shearing than shattering.

fyi…specialized transitions have aluminum 1 in. steerer tubes - at least my '08 s-works transition does. I do agree with the skepticism towards carbon steerers, especially having a recalled fork on my cervelo R3.
