Rebooting an Apple iPad?

is there a way of hard booting it back to life the way you can a Garmin for example? The screen is just a faint blue. The machine is on you can see a really dull light on the screen but it will not boot up. I tried a series of button holding to see if I could hard boot it but nothing seems to work.
Thanks

did you try holding the “home” button and the “power” button for about 10-15 seconds (wait for apple logo on screen)?

just tried that. The dim back ground light goes on then off and thats it. Thanks for the suggestion.

Have you tried connecting it to your computer? If so, does it show up in iTunes? If so, you should be able to try to click on the restore function on the iPad summary screen.

That worked Slowguy! Thank you and Happy Holidays:)

You’re welcome. Glad it worked.

Since Shake’s question got answered, I’m going to dovetail into this…

I am deployed and have no access whatsoever to private internet. I have been dealing with the necessity of doing all my training on treadmill/spin bikes by loading TV shows and movies on my iPad and watching them in the gym. I’ve known, in the back of my mind, how precipitously my morale depended on my iPad continuing to work, so I’ve been fairly careful and backed it up to my computer from time to time. It’s an older iPad (the first one with Retina…I don’t even think it had a proper name), so it’s only 16GB. I keep all my photos on there as well, so I only have about 10GB to play with. That said, it would easily hold 3-4 episodes of It’s Always Sunny, 2 True Detectives and a Sufferfest video. I would typically rotate out all my videos once a week (or sooner if necessary) using my computer and iTunes to facilitate.

…that is, until we had a port call and I updated iTunes on my PC. Unfortunately, I did not have my iPad with me. I went in to update it today and it would not recognize ANY of the videos I currently had on my iPad, which are taking up all of the free space. Since iTunes won’t recognize the videos, I can’t remove them. Even the iPad itself does not recognize that it has videos on it. I know that this space is being taken up by the videos, yet I have no idea why it’s not recognizing them, as the last time I used the iPad, I WATCHED SAID VIDEOS, DID NOT DELETE THEM, AND THEN PUT MY IPAD AWAY UNTIL TODAY. Yet, when plugging it in, the 10GB being used up is listed as “Other”.

I figured, “OK, well, I will reset my iPad to the last manual backup when I knew it worked. That will be fine.” Nope!! You have to turn off Find My iPad to restore a previous backup, and turning off FMiPad requires connectivity with iCloud.

Then I thought, “Well, fuck, I’ll just wipe the thing clean and restore a backup.” Fucking no! You can’t wipe the iPad anymore without, you guessed it, iCloud.

So, what do I do? I’m 7 weeks into a 70.3 program and don’t think I’m going to be able to put in the hours without something to keep me entertained as I would otherwise stare at a beige wall counting the seconds. Am I just iFucked or is there some trick??

Unfortunately, one of Apples recent security features kind of prevents restoring an iOS device without Apple ID or authentication.

I assume you’re posting here from a govt computer, where you aren’t allowed to plug in your iPad?

You can try this:

Slowguy - NICE! I think this will work. Thanks for digging that up for me - in hindsight, I should have checked our Apple Support, but I was so damn frustrated I decided to just ignore it…then ran into this thread and couldn’t help myself.

Can’t plug any USB devices into govy computers unless they’re specifically set up and authorized or it will lock out your whole network port (in order to keep viruses/spyware/whatever from private devices from spilling into the network).

Slowguy paying it forward this holiday season!!
