Rebekah Keat status?

Anyone know Rebekah Keat’s status as far as her suspesion or appeal goes? I see her on the Spirit of Racine 1/2 IM start list next weekend… A google search didn’t turn up anything concrete.

Joel

didnt she go to court?

As far as I know she had an appeal with the CAS, but I don’t know if it happened or if so what the outcome was.

Joel

i could try and find out i guess. i know the 3rd placegetter.

very interesting

i tried to get more information about her case several times, but never got an answer

the official triathlon australia news was: http://www.triathlon.org.au/NewsDetails.aspx?NewsID=477

CAS is currently making arrangements for the hearing of that appeal, which is not expected to be before June or July 2005.

she is still listed as the winner of IMWA and Kevin Mackinnon wanted to write about the case in one of his ironmanlife columns (he wrote me he had sent a request for more information to the guys in charge in australia, but i have no idea why i couldn’t find any news abouth that later in his columns).

i never got a response from triathlete magazine after i told them that in their article were a few mistakes about nandrolone doping

i guess nobody wants to talk about Rebekah Keat - but she looks so cute :-))
.

Even down under we don’t know what is going on. By the time she finishes her appeal she will have served her 2 year ban anyway, seems a bit like Tyler Hamilton, except she is young enough to come back.

I’m wondering about racing while an appeal is underway, as if she wins any prize money and then later is confirmed suspended retroactively it’s a mess for everyone invovled.

Joel

if memory serves, this thing has been a mess from day one. wasn’t triathlon australia under fire for not releasing her name after the positive? and hasn’t their subsequent handling of things been criticized? regardless, i’ve always thought nandrolone positives were suspiscious in triathlon. who wants to use 'roids to race ironman? or am i wrong?

i don’t know

but if you take the Rutger Beke case, then you see that it gets difficult. Mitch Anderson was 10th (or 11th if you count Beke) last year in Hawaii and would have been qualified for this years race as well. But he took his slot from IM Australia - perhaps he wasn’t sure if he will ever really get the 10th place (and the price money).

or if you look at the case of german middle distance runner Dieter Baumann. He was allowed (after civil court decision) to race again and qualified for the Olympics 2000, but there he wasn’t allowed to race.

And doping cases concerning nandrolone are always very critical. If a woman takes the anti baby pill she can test positive. Or Olivier Bernhard had the IOC lab in Paris check him every day for six month for nandrolone after he tested positive and they registered that on the days he was positive and the next day everything was fine. He paid for all the tests himself (at least that is what a friend told me).

I sent Rebekah Keat today a message - if you get a reply, I’ll let you know
