Just curious as I haven’t seen anything on this yet, but wondering what caused Julie Dibbens to drop out during the race in Vegas on Sunday?
I was wondering this also. Up to about mile 3 or 4, she was running in second place and at the finish she was nowhere to be found. I haven’t seen any other news on what happened.
Whoa. I didn’t even realize she dropped out and was watching live. Although, I dont think they actually showed Rollison making the pass on ironmanlive.
I’d be interested to know as well.
I don’t know the exact reason, but I can say 2 things.
At the pre race press conference, she said the only reason she was here was to take back the 70.3 titleWelchy said that she was nursing an injury and probably dropped out to not do damageGiven her motivation for line 1, and that she may be making the injury worse and that Rollinson only was 1:40 behind at T2 and closing fast, it makes sense that she’s made that decision with Kona coming up. Obviously Kona is a big goal or she would have not done IM CdA to “validate” her Kona slot (she already probably had enough points, but needed to do an Ironman.
I’m putting 2 and 2 together, but did not speak directly with her. As with all things on ST, I’m guessing as much as anyone and I don’t see anything on her website at this time.
FYI, this is what she posted in her IMCDA report and perhaps it sheds some insight into her decision (she’s already a 70.3 champion but not a Kona champion):
All in all, I’m not going to lie, I am disappointed with my performance yesterday here in Coeur D’alene. The jury is still out as to whether I am cut out to be an Ironman athlete…or at least to achieve my dreams as an Ironman athlete. But as I learnt with pretty much everything else I have done in life, just because you don’t get success immediately doesn’t mean it should stop you from trying. I just have to look back at the 70.3 worlds in Clearwater. I had to go there 3 times and come 4th twice, before I raced how I wanted to. Lets to hoping my 3’rd IM will follow that trend.
Announcer said she dropped out due to an injury. Foot I think he said.
come on dibens!
duct tape that foot back on! we want to see you make Chrissie HURT on the bike!
crush that smile of hers!
Julie has had numerous foot surgeries years ago that forced her out of ITU racing. She was told that she’d probably not run again (her 2nd toes is fused and plated at the joint). Since, she has had many years of great racing. She’s been feeling great that past two years, but after IM CdA this year, it started bothering her again…however, it’s the 3rd met head that is sore from taking up the slack of the fused 2nd.
She dropped out to not risk further irritation to the area.

It was a foot injury. My wife was standing near Julie’s husband, MIke, when she walked off the course.
Agreed, she needs to get healed up for Kona…to push Chrissie on the bike so that Rinny can run her down for the repeat.

I would not put my money on a repeat if Chrissie races and is healthy.
