I have a HED Stinger 90 rear wheel and a 60 front. I want to run a 90 in the front and disc in the rear and would save a bunch of money if I could just have the cassette parts taken off the 90 and use it in the front. Is this possible? Are the front and rear wheels the same expect for the added parts for mounting the cassette?
No. The front fork and the rear dropouts are different diameters. The rear wheel will not fit in the front.
Not wheel diameter, but spacing width between dropouts.
It was possible with the old Specialized Tri-spokes (now Hed-3) but you had to replace the entire axle. However, not being spoked, the wheel wasn’t dished. Your rear wheel is dished, so you’d either need to offset it at the hub (will look bad) or you’ll need to adjust all the spokes (not a good idea). Couldn’t you sell the rear on ebay, and pick up a front for less $$$? You’ll have the correct wheel, and more $$$.
I think the only way to do it, is to relace the wheel to a new front hub. This way, u save the money for the hoops and are only out $ for the hubs and spokes.
