Rear mounted Water bottle question

I am getting my First tri bike (from here on ST) and due to the frame, I will need some type of rear mounted water bottle, tool and tube storage and whatever else is needed. My question is what are the important factors to look at. Does the size and shape of the seat tube matter, what about the height, what are the variations on different styles, what do people like, what to stay away from. I have also seen front front mounted systems with dual fluid chambers and storage for food. Is this something to look at? Thanks for the tips and advice in advance

Most of the rear bottle holders attach to the saddle and not the seat post via something like the xlab wing. I had an issue of ejecting bottles for a while but if you get one of the cages that has rubber grips (x-lab gorilla I think, it has these rubber brips that prevent the bottle from riding up) and a bottle that is not to tapered at the bottom you won’t have this problem. I run two bottles behind the seat and a profile aerodrink up front in the aerobars…from the various setups I’ve tried this is my favorite. With this you also strap up your spare tube and co2/inflator in the back.

Only problem was in Ironman Germany there was a section of cobble stone and figures I would top off my aerodrink before entering it both times…my bike was caked in drink and I got a good couple of splashes in my face.

THIS will help with those bottle rockets.

Hi, there are a few solutions for rear hydration out there. What kind of bike did you get? In regards to the first answer: Seriously???Its worth mentioning that you got a couple of splashes in your face…

We are just prepping a test for rear hydration systems. Where are you located. Shoot me an email to info@trinited.com and maybe I can get you a pair to test.

I think it’s worth mentioning that the profile aerodrink bottle is sealed like crap and that it will spill/spash when you hit bumps.

Fair enough. Just trying to get a discussion going here…

I have the Profile Aquarack (round seat posts only, most others mount to the seat rails). The profile cages it comes with (called the Kage, glass-filled nylon with rubber o-rings for clamping force) have never ejected a bottle. I used the same cages on an Xlab before with similar performance, so it’s more the cage than the mount.

cheap cage (err…inxpensive) $3 each on the link above and fairly light. They make a carbon version; haven’t used it so I don’t know how well it grips.

I also have an AeroDrink front mount…not too thrilled with it (have since removed it). There’s a reason you see all those yellow mesh thingies littering every bike course.
