Rear hub ?, Spinergy XAERO LITE

I’ve got a queston about the rear hub on a Spinergy XAERO LITE. It’s a friend’s bike, so I’m trying to find a cure for the problem.

The hub seems to have some resistance. When you pedal the bike on a work stand, then stop pedaling, the hub drives the pedals around rather than letting the pedals coast.

If I try to pedal backwards, the chain starts to suck or sag.

I gave the chain, pulleys and freewheel a good cleaning, and this helped somewhat, but did not totally correct the problem.

Are the bearings too tight or do they need to be overhauled and greased?

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Could the cassette be tightened down too much? I seem to remember the two being linked, but can’t be sure.

I had the same problem. My LBS removed one “gasket or ring” from the rear hub as per Spinergy’s service dept… Works like a champ now…

Check this thread out. It ended up to be my solution… http://forum.slowtwitch.com/gforum.cgi?post=82489;search_string=search_string;#82489

Thanks for the link. That seems to be my problem. I pulled off the cassette and the freehub body still doesn’t spin easily.

as I mentioned in the other post - I still had to send the wheel back… (and once I got it back, I had to remove the washer thing)

So did you remove the washer thing yourself? Could you tell me how you did it?

Call Spinergy. They will send the appropriate parts to your LBS to fix the problem. They’ll also give the LBS the procedure for fixing the problem. Was the 80% solution for my rear hub…although it still rubs a bit.

My LBS did it for me in less than 10 minutes. They never removed the washer/gasket though, they just took it out, turned it around, relubed it, then put it back in again. It’s been good ever since for 3000+ miles.

I emailed Spinergy, they said to send it in. I can’t believe they don’t have a dealer in Atlanta. It always sucks when you have to send a wheel back. Even when you have extra bikes, it’s like one of them is missing a leg.
