Rear dropout adjustment: Now With Pics!

On my steel road bike the rear dropouts flexed out of adjustment aiming the tire to the side a bit. Is there an easy way to correct this or is it a job best left for the bike shop?

Are the screws bent or are they just screwed to different lengths?

Jodi

screws? I’m sure I just said something stupid but as far as I can tell there isn’t any place to adjust the the dropouts by screw.

Oh, I’m sorry, I was thinking you had horizontal dropouts with adjustable screws. My bad! Not sure what’s going on with your bike. Maybe you could take a pic and post it?

Jodi

You read my mind, here you go.
Thanks!

Hmmmm… not sure. The last piece of advice I can give you, is to change your title to say- now with pics. It will double the people who open it up and might have ideas

haha, thanks for the help. On a side note, I’m impressed that Cleveland has a tri club. I lived there for 26 years, moved to Austin 8 months ago and just got into the sport. If i find myself back there I’ll look you guys up.

Matt

Definitely look us up! It’s a big group with a lot of really friendly people. And you can’t beat cycling in the Chagrin river valley!

Take it to your LBS and they can fix in in a few minutes–unless you want to buy one of these

Hardly worth buying the tool since this isn’t something you’ll probably ever use again.

Could be one of a couple of things…

  • The dropout could be bent. If so, do as one other poster suggested and take it to the LBS and they can fix it.

  • It looks like a less expensive steel frame since it does not have the dropout adjustment screws that some of the nicer bikes had. In the case that the dropouts are not bent, just undo the quick release and fidget with the rear wheel until it is aligned properly.

That’s about it.

Yeah, since I’m not about to buy those tools I’ll just take it down the street. This is now my “fun” bike, I get my B2 tomorrow  Thanks for all the help!
