Knucklehead Lions fan shines laser pointer in the eyes of Bills players, then is stupid enough to brag about it online. He gets caught, he’s banned from any more games, and the season ticket holder whose seat he was in loses his tickets for the rest of the season.

Banning the season ticket holder is bullshit. Seems to me like this is more of an attack on sites like Stub Hub.
You can tell relatives to behave themselves and maybe they will. It’s pretty hard to tell a total stranger to behave himself and expect him to give two shits what you say.
Having said that, I understand that this was a relative of the season ticket holder.
What this ban really does is makes season ticket holders think twice about selling on Stub Hub.
I think that is common practice among teams where the season ticket holder is basically held responsible for whatever the person sitting in their seats does. I know the Patriots have been doing that for years, and I even personally witnessed four guys who were sitting in the row in front of me at one game get tossed out and they were telling the kid who got them all tossed as they were leaving how their friend who let them use his tickets that day was going to be pissed because now he was going to get a letter from the team telling him that the tickets were going to be revoked.
Lorenzo beat me to it, but, I was going to say the same. I have season tix. I think we sold our seats 4 times in the last 20 years. Twice, I got seats for me and the old man in the luxury boxes with clients and twice we got seats on the 50 with friends. All 4 times, I was worried. We sold them to people we knew, but, still nervous.
A couple years ago, my dad had double knee replacement, so, he could not walk the steps to our seats for most of the season. We got handicap seats for the entire season. We turned in our season tickets and got tickets to the handicap section in return. The Packers then sold our seats, but, we were not responsible for fan behavior for those games.
According to the article losing the season tickets depends on the “nexus” between the season ticket holder and the person occupying the seat. Under that line of reasoning “family” seems like the most dangerous group to give your tickets to.
