Real Design in InformationWeek

Was just flipping through the July 11 issue of InformationWeek, and noticed some Real Design Supersonic wheels and what look to be titanium frames on page 11. Could it be the Litespeed factory?

I’m not sure if you are tounge in cheek here, but yes they are made by ABG (Litespeed, Merlin, Tomac, Quintana Roo).

There was talk on this list that Steve Hed helped design their wheels.

People like to come here and shoot their ads here because we actually make stuff.

what’s up with the $1,000 off most of your high-end bikes? have you guys had a hard time moving them?

has the lack of a power-house D1 pro team hit you guys kind of hard too?

i’d love a ghisallo, but for what the frame/fork cost i got a R2.5 Team with money to spare…

Well, we just know that people like deals and what better way to celebrate the Tour. Of course we’d love to be in the Tour too, but not at any cost.
As for the R 2.5, it is beautiful indeed, but we have seen more than one come through the tradeinbikes program.

if you make a ghisallo with a spec like the R2.5 team for the same price i’d have a hard time not getting one…

a little off-shoring never hurt anyone:)

Has not having a big time team hurt you guys at all? any plans to get back in the mix?

I, for one, would be horrified if Litespeed off-shored their bikes. I think they are a great American, made-in-America company, and as a proud Litespeed owner, the fact that 100% of their bikes are made here was one of the major deciding factors in choosing my Litespeed over a Trek, since Trek only makes some of their bikes here…

I’d rather pay more for a Ghisallo and know that I was supporting American workers, especially when the product is as good as it is.

off-shoring has many benefits
.

That’s true. I was comparing a Tuscany with a 5200, both of which are made in the USA. I didn’t like that Trek off-shored SOME of their bikes, but, at least to me, still gave the impression of making bikes in the US. I like that ALL Litespeeds are made in the US. Even with their aluminum bikes, they’ve maintained a commitment to both Litespeed quality and a “Made in the USA” sticker. I don’t believe in buying “Made in the USA” just for the sake of it. But I like the idea of buying stuff made here when the quality is there. I like Sugoi stuff, because even though some/all of the fabric is made overseas (domestic textiles are a dying industry), the clothes are still put together in Canada. I like supporting North American businesses. I know Sugoi isn’t running a sweatshop, yet their prices are still competitive and they deliver a great product. To me, it’s something that makes me feel good. It’s just a personal preference, not something I believe to be right or wrong.

I like to support local stores, organic farmers, and the like. I think it makes a difference.
