I’m on my way to a good taper for the Tempe Triathlon that is this sunday. Is anybody else going to be taking part in this tri? I have yet to do this event. I did the GCC sprint tri this past weekend which was a lot of fun. Want to get some information on what people think of the Tempe Tri.

ASU SUN DEVILS!!!
i’ll be there. i did the race last year, but there have been major changes since then, so i can’t really give you much of an idea to expect. hopefully, the swim won’t be 2200-2500 meters like it was last year. the bike is now 2 laps instead of 3. finally, there is a new run course as well. basically, this is more like a first year race than the third annual tempe tri. sort of tapering this week, so i hope i can put in a decent result…
the bike course should definitely be less congested. and they completely removed the trail sections on the run, which i agree was poorly marked/monitored…
Go Devils! Fork 'em!!!
Although I wish all the racers the best of luck…I’m staying away from 3D Events until I actually see changes made…I am hoping that it happens for this race. I did the sprint distance last year, and I understand the course is quite a bit different, so I will refrain from making any commentary as I have not ridden/ran it. However, make sure when you get your packet that you check it for EVERYTHING that you should have gotten. Make sure the timing chip is the right number, the race number has your information on the tag, etc. Pre-ride…pre-ride…pre-ride the bike course and run course. Pretty standard for all races…but there was some issues with the chips last year at various 3D events. May be par for the course, but it would suck not to get your splits or…gasp…your results (yup…it’s happened).
Going down to do the Sonoita-Patagonia TT Sunday myself…20km TT with 800 elevation drop…you get a t-shirt if you average 30mph or faster. Since I just started swimming again, and haven’t ran since Nov 2003…figure I start with something “easy”.
Dave (and anybody else)…I know a couple of people that are interested in reviving the ASU TriDevils. If you are interested in getting the team up and running again, let me know. The team has a pretty good history for its short existence, including the collegiate national champion (male) one year. Also, if you are interested in joining Arizona State Cycling, the collegiate cycling team that represents ASU, let me know as well…I can put you in contact with the right people.
Weather promises to be awesome…good luck.

I will be there with several of my training buddy’s from Las Cruces, NM. It is the first time any of us have done a 3D event but we are all looking forward to it. Registration was only $55 and you get a free sleeveless bike jersey, how can you beat that deal?
hey david,
I’ll be there this weekend. Well actually, I guess I’m already here. I should just say: I’m racing this weekend. Happy tapering and I’ll see you out there. Best of luck!

I would love to start up the ASU TriDevils! That would be a blast. I was waiting to get in contact with the ASU Cycling team just so that I could get inot some better shape. But I would love the info! Can’t wait for Sunday, and it seems as if Saturday is going to be fun also!

ASU SUN DEVILS!!!
The event last year was a little messed up (the swim was long – but that was OK by me!) but the timing fiasco was not funny. I’m giving it another try this year and driving from LA area – hoping the changes will improve the race. In my humble opinion the venue at Tempe Town lake has incredible potential and offers convenient access for local athletes from the valley. I also enjoy getting to see my old stomping grounds at ASU – also provides a nice alternative to those not inclined to make the trek up to Wildflower.
