Reactive (?) hypoglycemia after workouts - normal or not?

Just wondering if you ever got this figured out…?

I’m having similar symptoms. Twice now I’ve had some kind of delayed post exercise hypoglycemia occurring when it’s cold/rainy outside. Despite slamming a bottle of Endurox less than 5 mins after finishing, I’m finding that about 1 hour post workout (right around the time when I start warming up) I get really terrible hypoglycemia. In both cases I ate a vegetable dominant meal after Endurox. In the first case I felt like crap for hours BUT didn’t eat anything because I didn’t realize I was hypoglycemic. In the second case (just this afternoon), I wondered if I was hypoglycemic and quickly ate a package of clif shot blocks and felt better almost immediately.

The thing that doesn’t make sense to me is why this is happening. Workouts were not too tough at all (3 hr ride in first case, 1 hr run in second case) and I refueled immediately with Endurox, which I’ve been using for years without issue.

Any insight from you or anyone else who has had similar symptoms would be awesome.

If you’re eating a “vegetable dominant” meal, it could be that you are not getting enough fat and protein to keep your blood sugar levels even. I used to have this problem all the time whenever I ate a “loaded” baked potato for lunch. Once I replaced it with a cheeseburger, my blood sugar levels were fine. Basically, I have this problem whenever I try to eat a high carb, low fat diet. I’ve found that I need a moderate amount of fat and protein in my diet to keep the blood sugar levels in good shape.

Now I know some will say you shouldn’t eat cheeseburgers and similar foods, but honestly, they work great for me.
