We have done it before, live in the area, well near the start at least. Usually have two vans of teamates, switch off when necessary. Beautiful run, well supported, great atmosphere. Some challenging sections but overall just a great time.

Done it twice, my team has done it 4 times, this year will be 5 (I now live on the west coast).
Unbelievable event, probably the most fun event I have ever done. 300 teams, each ranging from 2 people to 12 people. I did it with 10 both years, but i think 7 or 8 would be ideal.
I got drafted in for the race
I hope to see you all
thanks for the replys

Most fun I’ve EVER had in any race
.
I’ve done it 3 times (2002-2004). Very well organized and very pretty! Aweome experience, O much fun! You get to run in the morning, day, night… run up a ski mountain… cross most of NH and finish at the beach… spend 24hrs with no sleep with 11 other sweaty runners living off powerbar and gatorade… one of my favorite races ever. Absolutely awesome! The local high schools and churches do a competition to see who has the best transition… it’s pretty neat.
Putting the right team together can be a pain though… I was the team captain and tried to get very organized way ahead of time, but there were always some runners that would get injured, bag or cancel on us. First year we had a full 12 people team (and won the all women diviion), second one we were 11 and last time 10.
Fun all around…
I did it in 2002. I was a last minute fill in (I joined the team 4 weeks before the race). I had just gotten back from my honeymoon and hadn’t run in a month. It was pitched to me as “You get to meet a lot of cool people…you get to run down a quiet country road in the middle of the night under the stars…we don’t care about our time…etc…etc”
The reality ended up being the remnants of a tropical storm which dropped about 10 inches of rain on us, I’ve never been so happy to be wrapped up in a wet blanket, and we ended up being neck and neck with a bunch of friends on another team and had a beer wager going, so it was hammer down. I’ve never been so sore in my life as I was the few days after. I’d do it again though…
If you are in a 12 person team, try and get in your team’s first van if you can…they have a way better schedule of when they run and when they get to catch some zzzzs. Plus, they finish early in the morning just when the diners are opening so you can grab a fat stack of pancakes to celebrate and then go hang out at the beach and wait for your team to finish. Good luck!
I’ll be doing with an Ultra team of 4.
say hi when you go past…
I’ve got a guy in my office who is doing it again this year, after a great job last year. He is also a former college swimmer…SO, I am trying to talk him into getting a bike :-)!
This will be my third year competing in RTB. It is an awesome race. I’ve been apart of a coed team made up of alum from college. I swear no matter what shape you are in you will feel the mountainous hills of NH. This year the course will be quite a bit different as the race will not be starting at Bretton Woods running up the ski mountain. I’m certainly looking forward to new challenges this years course brings along with the wonderful smells of not showering over a 24 hours period. Also there is just something about running at one in the morning, all you have is your head lamp on back country roads not knowing what is lurking to left or right of you. Yes you may run into the occasional moose or skunk, but it’s about the experience right?
This year our team starts at 3 pm with two other co-ed teams. We’ve won the division the last two years and finished third overall last year. Like I said it is a great time to be with friends you haven’t seen in awhile. And cheers to team Hello Kitty! Also the many costumes and decorative vans you will see are a sight to see. Best of luck to everyone this coming weekend!
This will be our team’s 4th year running.
By far one of the best organized, well run races I’ve been a part of. From the awesome atmosphere to the purely spectacular scenery of the NH Mountains in September - this is a must do.
On top of that - throw in all the logistical issues, and you have a good time. For example - you are only allowed to have two vehicles on the course, getting one runner ready to roll, tracking the runner on course, and making sure ten other runners are well fed and rested.
I will never forget the first year we did this race as an ultra team with six runners - and none of us having any idea of what we got ourselves into. The thought of running through the NH backcountry at 2am with nothing but my headlamp and a few blinking lights on the backs of runners in the distance to keep you on course still brings me back.
Or in 2004 when Hurricane Ivan parked itself on top of NH for the weekend - leading to a very wet, very interesting 200 mile run.
GOOD TIMES!!
Team Name: Ace of Pace

Hey I will be the #4 runner as well. The first leg is pretty sweet with a straight downhill, but then we pay for it on the second leg with it being mostly up hill. What time slot are you go off at? By the way I’m part of the SLU All Starz team.
10 :20 am is our start time
I will be looking for you ha ha
when do you tee off

"I’ll be doing with an Ultra team of 4. "
How do you guys go about dividing the legs? I can’t tell if I would rather do 9 runs of ~6 miles avg length or 4 runs of ~12 miles but with more rest between. Is there a strategy most ultra teams use or does it vary?
9 legs ea. We decided that some of the back to backs would just be too brutal. You get less sleep this way, but it seemed to work best. I’ll let you know how it goes!
Awesome…good luck.
Back when I did RTB I was just starting to get into this whole triathlon thing and I remember seeing those 4 person teams and thinking “What a bunch of crazy nutters. Who would want to do something like that?”
Now I realize I have become a crazy nutter, at least in the eyes of 99.9% of the population…
what a blast
