Re: Honoring Fallen Triathlete

I was deeply moved by the passing of Barney Rice it reminds me what Lance Armstrong, a cancer survivor and 7-time Tour de France winner said “I just decided. I’m never going to waste another day thinking about tomorrow. This is it. Today is all I have.”

I am unsure why God has called Barney home to serve with him in heaven, when his family desperately needs him here on earth. I only know that heaven must now be a brighter place while we are diminished for having his light extinguished from this earth.

I was thinking that it would be a great idea if all the ST’ers could send in a donation to Barney’s favorite charity in his name to honor him. Also, I thought we could all put Barney’s initial on our calf during our next Ironman Triathlon that way we could all get Barney to the finish line and maybe just maybe he will help us to the line as well.

I would like to leave you with a quote from Tagore:

I have got my leave. Bid me farewell, my brothers!

I bow to you all and take my departure.

Here I give back the keys of my door- I give up all claims to…….my house. I only ask for last kind words from you.

We were neighbors for long, but I received more than I could ….give. Now the day has dawned and the lamp that lit my dark ….corner is out. A summons has come and I am ready for my ……journey.

Thanks for reading this post and helping us (ME) deal with our (MY) grief.

This is a really nice gesture. There’s also a guestbook you can sign through the obituary that was posted in another thread. Just keep in mind his name is Barney, not Barry.

Thanks for the correction.
