Hello all…I have my first half IM of the season this weekend (Race for Recovery Half in Monroe, MI) and have an issue with my arm rest pads. I have the Easton attack aerobars and the Cee-Gee gel arm rests…but the sticky velcro stuff they came with is coming off and I need to reglue. What should I use that will stick to foam and carbon fiber? Let me know all you twitching geniuses.
Shoe Gu.
THANKYOU…any other options I should consider?
you could always go to Walmart or similar and just get velcro strips with stick-on backing. they’ll be in the fabric/craft section.
The glue on those at WalMart is terrible…I have tried. Mjuric found some somewhere that kicked ass…Velcro brand but i have never seen it or the glue backing in any store.
Gorilla Glue has worked for me.
I’ve also seen “industrial” velcro strips at Ace Hardware and wondered if those might work too.
Office Max sells Velcro brand Industrial Velco. I have used it for other commercial applications (not aero pads) and the glue holds great.
I use plain old superglue. HED recommends tubular tire glue.
x2 on Gorilla glue…
I have your exact setup (Easton Attack TT’s w/ Cee Gee aerobar pads) and have dealt with this exact problem. The best solution for me was to just replace the velcro on the carbon part with some strips of velcro brand industrial velcro. This stuff is extremely sticky and I haven’t had any problems with is coming off (FYI: use an old pair of scissors to cut the strips…the glue is super sticky and could ruin a good pair of scissors).
Also, the velcro backing on my Cee Gee pads has started to come off in the past, and in this case, I just spread a thin layer of epoxy on the pad to re-glue to velcro. It holds really well. If it were me, I might stay away from the Gorilla Glue. I love that stuff for other applications…it’s ridiculously strong…but it expands a lot when it dries, so it migh not be best for the aerobars.
i used 3M spray 77 general purpose adhesive. worked just fine.
