Re: Chicago Bike Fitting - do I need a fit?

Recommendations for a Chicago area bike fitting, shop and fitter.

Pondering if someone would do a fit for my tri/cross/mtn frames at the same time for cheaper than 3?

I’ve worked with Adam Kaplan @ GetaGrip with great results…Not sure how the combo would work with them.

X2 for GetAGrip cycles
.

Get a Grip - period.

x4 for Adam at Get a Grip but I will say you may want to give Mox a call. New shop, may do it for less and they are great to work with!

I think Mox will be about half the price and they certainly know what they are doing, at least Troy does.

Is that the same Troy formerly of Mission Bay? He fitted me for my P2SL, I wouldn’t call it exactly a “technical” experience. Love the bike though, lots of headset spacers to ST standards!

Any feedback on Dave Hudson from Element Multisport on Clyborne? Talked to him today and he seemed experienced with multiple fit certifications.

I got fit by Adam a few years ago at GetAGrip. I was brand new to tris at the time, so I can’t really give a solid feedback.
I did have them build my bike up however, and was severely displeased with that.
However, their fit studio on Fulton is not their normal shop, and I think wrench work traditionally gets done at the north side store.
Excuses or not, I spent way too much money for a poor build.

Side note, Adam told me that once they had all my data down for the tt bike, the could do a quick trainer-only (no fit bike, spinscan, etc) fit on my roadie for like $75.

I’ve not had a Retul fit done at Element, but that’s my go-to shop, & I think they guys who work there are just great.

I also had a fit at The Bike Shop in Glen Ellyn, and I was very very pleased. It was less than 1/2 the price of Get A Grip.
They have a relationship with John Cobb, and he was there last time I was in, working with the fitters. So they have been trained well.

Thanks for the feedback. I would agree with GAG on bike work, only one experience with a headset but the bike came back filthy.

Element has a new store on Clyborne, dropped by yesterday and seemed like a small, but tri-specific set-up. The fitter seemed experienced and was certified on several fit types.

Adam comes highly recommended by all, just farther away.

My big question is that my bike is supremely comfortable and I am fast riding it. After IM in 2007, I’ve developed some hammie/gleut issues that manifest themselves mostly on the tri bike - mtn bike is not an issue, road/cross somewhat, tri, yes.

I tried the HIM at High Cliff this weekend, and only made it to mile 40 with several stops for stretches before the gleuts gave out for good.

My masseuse recommended a fit as she had a client that had a similar issue fixed this way, a lot of money for a bike that seems to fit great tho… AND, I have tried just about everything else: PT, Massage, Chiro, Ortho, Prolo, PRP, ARC Wave, etc. Acupuncture is next!

Thoughts?

Hmmm: Does this only happen in races?

No, training rides too. I have been trying not to ride the tri bike while I’ve been trying to rehab it. Diagnosed as common hamstring tendonosis, but not sure I’m buying that anymore.

I will say I can ride my trainer fine, but I just can’t push things. I think I tend to push outdoors more, its easier to let off inside. I’ve been racing NORBA this year with no issues in this area, granted the race is only about 15 miles and an hour long. Similarly CX season this winter was mostly fine with some soreness.

Last weekend I stretched (fig 4 stretch) at 10 miles, then another 10, then 5, then 2, then it blew for good.

It would be great if a fit would help, I just can’t see them changing that much, I could be totally wrong. See my profile for some pics…
