I heard Ray Charles died? Don’t have time to confirm…
He did. It’s being reported on CNN.
Big loss. The guy was brilliant.
Yes. he died home. Age 73. No other details yet. But friends/family were there, so they must have known. How sad. That guy was great.
He sang a song last year for one of those country video shows. Top 100 country songs of all time or something. It was not his song, but he sang it so well. I wish I could remember the song, and burn it onto a CD.
Wow, first Johnny Cash, now Ray Charles…
Damn- two of my favorites.
This is a truely sad day ![]()
.
This one makes me very sad. I loved Ray Charles. I’ll be spinning his discs w/ Tibbs.
As a Canadian, to me Ray Charles was always about some of what was best in the U.S.A. - not just because of his renditions of “America the Beautiful” and “Georgia on My Mind” but quirky things like his great appearance in the Blues Brothers movie. I defy anyone to listen to his version of “Oh What a Beautiful Morning” and still have a bad day. A soulful voice gone.
Yes Tom, it looks bad for the coming years. We have suffered through a lot of our favorite young musicians dying in their prime years, and now it looks as if the great ones that made it through their youth and provided us with the background music of our lives, are leaving us at an alarming rate. To make matters worse, I see few new/ young ones stepping in to take their places
Great music never dies. See you in Rock n Roll Heaven, Ray.
BABY WHAT’D I SAY?
I’ll never forget the lip-sync version of “The night time is the right time” on the Cosby show back in the day; classic! Charles was a true Genius and his music has aged well, sounds just as good today as it did 40-50 years ago.
Dave from VA
Agreed. The music industry has lost one of it’s giants. He will be missed.

Heard it at about 22:30 on BBC1 news last night.
At least my dearly departed father-in-law has some great guys up there to entertain him in heaven- Elvis, Barry White, and now Ray Charles.
