At the IM distance I go with Rap he is a proven winner at the distance.
Probably a safe bet since he is know at the IM distance.
Is Rapp ever going to do Kona?

Isn’t that kind of saying Kobe Bryant vs. Eli Manning?

This.
Apples and oranges, friend. Apples and oranges.
Sure, it’s apples and oranges.
But if the orange is Eli Manning, he just hopped in a pick up basketball game and dunked on Jeremy Lin.
Dunking on Jeremy Lin isn’t the same as dunking on Mike Brewster.
Not to belittle anyone who raced @ Panama - there were more than a few heavy hitters.
But when he steps up to 140.6, I’m not sure he’ll be able to go balls to the walls successfully on the mary.
Regardless, surprisingly (to me) nice performance yesterday. That boy can run.
I go with Rapp just because he will acknowledge fellow athletes after the race.

I’m not sure there is a way to comment on this thread without appearing to be biased towards myself, and I certainly don’t mean what I write in that way. Lance very clearly demonstrated he is a first class TRIathlete over the weekend. But, I do think that the difference between 70.3 and 140.6 can be massive. Of the 70.3 World Champs, only Crowie - so far - (among the men) has become a proven success at the IM distance. Andy Potts has certainly done very well - at least as well as I have - but Terenzo has struggled, and it’s not clear yet what Michael Raelert will do. So I don’t think it’s fair to assume Lance will do equally well at Ironman based off his single successful 70.3. I’d rather be making comments on a thread, “so how will Lance do at Ironman?” than on a thread about me vs. Lance, and I would certainly never underestimate him, but - speaking from experience - Ironman is a different game than 70.3. I would wager Lance will do well at Ironman France, but Ironman is both individually unpredictable (things can really wrong in an Ironman way more than in a 1/2) and overall more unpredictable (in terms of how someone will do) than a 70.3
Right now you can’t compare Lance vs Jordan at IM distance. Lance beat some good triathletes in Panama and I’m sure he will do well at 140.6, but as we all know IM is very different game. Jordan knows how to race and win IM’s, one day Lance might too… then it will be fun to see what happens.
Heavy hitters who were paid appearance fees to show and who were coming off of their off-seasons…You think that many quality pros would show at a small race (600 people) in those conditions without some incentive in the bank?

You mean besides needing points to qualify for Kona?
John
It was a low-tier race with fewer points on the offer…That wasn’t enough, I am sure.

As JD said, qualification points at an early season race can be one reason…but other than that, what point are you trying to make? I don’t get it. So what if they were paid to come? Are you saying they were paid so lance could show them up?

Did they pay Bevan Docherty as well?
You’re saying there were heavy hitters, but in name only. No one made that an A race except Lance who said he’d been training really hard for it.
And being paid to come is the secondary point, they showed up to “Race” on vacation.
Bob
Docherty has the benefit of training in…SUMMER since it’s summer in Oz now.
People are saying Lance beat a stacked and I’m simply saying the names he beat were coming off their off-seasons and not in top shape.
Bob
Oh I see what you’re saying now.
No, I wasn’t necessarily saying in name only, I was saying that they didn’t perform as well as Lance did - take that as you may.
Methinks it has something to do with the fact that Lance had more on the line than any of the other athletes and so he prioritized differently, as you guessed “No one made that an A race except Lance who said he’d been training really hard for it.”
Actually, outside of Vegas, it was only 1 of 4 1500 point 70.3s this year. That is higher points than an IM like Lake Placid in 2012 and maybe St. George.
I’ll go with Lance because.
