Christmas Eve and Rapha declares an "up to 50% off " sale .
I am sure 90% of the sales are from on line sales and most people have bought gifts prior to Xmas .
Is this just me or is this just wrong , yes I’m a sure they will offer some type of refund but I don’t get it

What about it don’t you get? And what is “just wrong” about it?
Even on sale I think it’s overpriced.
How does their stuff compare to Assos?
Then don’t buy their stuff
.
it’s just you
.
It’s full price prior to today and all of a sudden it’s 50% off ?maybe because they have limited bricks and mortar stores , I would be pissed.

Makes sense, from their point of view. Sales were great over the past few weeks (people doing Christmas shopping), and are probably going to be very slow for the next few weeks (everybody recovers from the Christmas expenses). Therefore, they want to stimulate sales in the slow season by offering a Sale. Why would they offer the sale before, when everyone’s in a shopping frenzy anyway?
To be fair to them, they did have the exact same prices on a lot of these items a month ago for Black Friday weekend. My girlfriend was clever and got my Christmas present delivered a week early.
If you want to shop smart, do it when others aren’t. Buy winter stuff in spring and summer stuff in autumn, buy after the holidays and not before.
Not a problem in the UK - I was in their central london store - purchase it, return it for full price, buy it again in the sale - whats the issue?
it may be over-priced, but like arc teryx - I like it and think its the dogs bollocks!
it’s just you, as explained in post 8.
There’s a parable in the bible about someone agreeing to work all day for a certain amount, and then he gets upset when someone else gets paid the same for only a couple hours work (I paraphrase). it sounds like you’re the guy who agreed to ‘work all day’.
Ps Merry Christmas!
Then don’t buy their stuff
exactly this. most people who think this haven’t used their products.
it’s true, their stuff is expensive, but it’s of the highest quality.
i have a pair of bibs from 2010 & they are just (structurally) like the day i bought them.
I do get it , I ride almost exclusively in their products and the quality is second to non.
Just pissed at their retail strategy and I need to get over it .
How about the strategy of almost all retailers selling stuff cheaper tomorrow.
or the weekend after Thanksgiving. Damn the companies for the opportunity to give us more shit for less.

I don’t know about wrong, but probably not a real smart business strategy.
Many premium brands like to avoid big discounts and some of them basically don’t allow any discounts (Bose is one that comes to mind that I know has a no discount policy, ever)
Hurts the exclusivity of the brand and also can be bad marketing because consumers are pretty smart,
if they expect a sale they will wait for the sale price. For example, I am sure you will be wary of
paying full price next time and wait for an expected sale. Likewise, now if you payed full price, you feel like
a sucker, so the policy can be bad if it upsets some loyal customers (especially ones willing to pay full price).
Just get over it (it sounds like you like the product) and just remember this for next year.
My example is J Crew. They always have a 30% off everything sale in December. I pretty much don’t
buy any staples from them all year, just wait until December. They have permanently damaged their
margins (at least for sales to me) because based on their sale policy I would feel stupid if I ever payed
full price for their products.
Same thing with Patagucci. I have a minimum 20% discount all the time due to an affiliation, and get opportunities
at times to get 50% off, so again, I would never ever pay full price for their products.
So lots of companies do this kind of stuff, just have a good memory and only pull the trigger when it makes
sense unless you just have to have it right now.
Yeah, it’s sort of silly to discount pretty much the entire range.
The Thanksgiving sale at Rapha was on a few specific items - and judging by the stocks available, it was items at the end of the cycle, too. This time… Just about everything, including brand-new items like the Pro Team Rain Jacket, is discounted. Next purchase will wait for another sale, although at a size S, stocks run out fast…
Name one clothing retailer that does not do this? This is the norm as you pointed out. I NEVER but clothes for my wife before the holidays, but take her after to shop and she can get 2x the goods for the same price. Limited sizes are the issue, but worth it.
On Rapha - never heard of them until now. Very pricey stuff, but while they maybe high quality, I’d stink the heck out of this as I would with other gear, but at least I’d look better.
Over Rated.
Have you worn their bib shorts ??
I’m guessing the whole January sales thing isn’t that common in the US?
Here in the UK boxing day is crazy for shopping with shops both online and in store doing what is basically your black friday type deals. Radha obviously decided to get the sale going early as lets face it it won’t affect Xmas sales as what ever you order won’t get to you in time for Xmas day so waiting for Boxing day is pointless.
On a side note though thanks. this thread pointed the sale out to me and I have finally managed to justify buying a jersey as with 50% off it’s the same price as the rest of my usual ones!
