Does anyone know how these two training locations compare? I know Phoenix is a top training spot, but would Rancho Mirage, CA be similar? Sept. thru Dec. time frame.
Thanks for your help.

Pretty similar I would say, maybe Tucson would be a better choice in AZ though.
really? I thought Phoenix was the hot spot? Any negatives about Phoenix?
GTS.
Plenty of articles on training “hotbeds” in AZ, CO, CA, etc. Check triathlete mag.
the roads and pools are better in Rancho Mirage. just saying ![]()

Not a ton. I don’t get what all the hype is about regarding Tucson, having trained in both places. Plenty of pools, a billion miles of running paths and trails, most of the roads have bike lanes, etc. Tucson does have the advantage of the big mountain climbs, but that’s about it. South Mountain is a pretty good mountain climb, but nothing like Kitt Peak or Mt Lemmon in Tucson.
Anyways, nothing substantial from a negative point of view sticks out in my mind regarding training in Phoenix. There’s access to several lakes too for open water swimming. Everything you need is here (in Phoenix)… great place to train 365days a year.

It’s hotter than the surface of the sun in the summer, but other than that, I’m sure it’s great.
Seriously. Phoenix is unbelievably hot in the summer. I can’t imagine trying to train in that heat.

It sucks, actually training in Tucson in the summer sucks also, but PHX does suck worse in the summer.
