A friend is doing Ralph’s 1/2 IM next weekend. He is planning on riding his Ksyrium Elite clincher wheels. He has a pair of tri-spoke (H3) tubulars (a little old, Specialized branded). I am trying to convince him that he should use the tri-spokes for the race. He is a strong rider (normal 2:30 1/2 IM bike split). Opinions?
Unless your friend is M25-29, H3’s all the way. There are some hills and there is often some wind but nothing serious enough to make a deep section wheel a problem. I will be on an H3/disc setup for whatever that’s worth.

The course is only hilly for a brief bit. Times were slow last year because of ugly headwinds going north. H3s would be ideal on the Ralph’s course.
