Don’t think what you can’t do. Think what you can. Might be more work on your swimming, strength training, rest, hot chocolate, sex next to the fireplace, wearing a nice jacket. You can take yoga classes, pilates and so on.
put a rain jacket and go play in the water, thats what i just did (run) ![]()

I start thinking of all the great meals that come with winter, and all the tasty bottles of wine to go with those meals. It’s time to crawl into a bottle of Syrah, Zin, Cab, and maybe a well crafted Pinot or three. Last night’s dinner was pumpkin raviolis made from scratch with a burnt butter sage sauce and a pork chop. Although that was served with a nutty, deep-brown, local micro brew.
That, and it’s only three months to ski season! Time to start stretching.
Monday. One heck of a way to spend 1/7 of your life. As for rain, I always feel like the heavens are taking care of us when it rains, because if it didn’t rain, it would be hellaceous here on earth.
lol…
Personally, I don’t mind the rain so much as I do the short winter days. Sunset’s already at 6 pm here, and getting earlier by the day.
New computers. Frequent trips to another hemisphere (every 30 days). Assos clothing. Coffee.
…And computrainer racing. Oh, and books. Lots of books.

It was raining here last week and I was moaning that running isn’t as much fun in bad weather. A guy walks into my office hears me complaining and says “there’s no such thing as bad weather, just poorly clothed athletes” (he said it in german so it loses a bit in translation but I still thought - “yeah, you’re right”).
you’re on!
lol
I live in NZ mate. Never rains here. Honest.
You run through it. Then eat and eat and eat and eat…
Not sure where you live, here in the Pacific Northwest there is no way to not train in the rain. We were drenched on Sunday group ride, literally from the moment we left the apartment complex. Half the time the solution is a frame of mind. The alternative as pointed out by our coach was when a team of cyclist approached us going the other way " look over there those guys are your competitors (road racing) and they are out training so suck it up" or words to that affect. LOL
The hard month is November when the clock goes back and its the first month of true darkness, that plus incessant rain really screws up ones perception of the world!

Get out there. When I lived in Chicago, I ran outdoors all winter. Find an indoor pool and join a club that has spin or get a CompuTrainer. Now is the time to build the base for next year’s success.
If it only rains, remember what Lance says: “Are you ridin’ or are you hidin’?” Rainy days are a great time to do big mileage, because so many of your competitors will be on the couch watching a movie. Be careful and stay aerobic, because it’s not about speed. I’ve probably ridden over 5,000 miles in the rain over the last five years, including last year’s New Years Eve 10/100/10 (10K swim, 100 mile bike, 10 mile run). All you need is the right gear. After you get going, you warm up and start to revel in the fact that you’re out there and you’re doin’ it.
One rain ride I did a few years back, I coerced a buddy into going (he’s a bit younger) and he coerced his posse to join us. One of the girls in his group was a college student on her first ever rain ride. At first, she was unsure about going. Then, at about mile 40, she jubilantly exclaimed how great it was to be doing this while all the “old folks” were hiding indoors. I asked what she meant by old, and she replied “you know, like my parents… 50!” My friend laughed and told her that a 50-year-old (me) had been dragging her butt down the highway all day.
It can be fun if you learn to make a game out of it.
Any bike maintenance issues with regular rain riding? Do you ride your regular rig or another setup?
Great to be away from the old folks home isn’t
I think I will ride tonight ! Thanks for the laugh .
ran 78km in constant rain on Saturday starting at 05:30 - that was not pleasant.
Still, a light shower now seems like nothing, so I guess there is a silver lining.
It doesn’t matter if you get wet from rain or sweat, you are still going to get wet!
