Has anyone done the Rage Triathlon in Boulder City, Nevada? What are the bike and run courses like? Hilly?
Which bike would you use, road bike or tri bike and why.
Thanks for any help or advise ![]()
i guess it depends on what you’re used to.
This ride is about what the bike is:

There is a little 8% about 3 miles from the end, but then it’s downhill until t2.
It’s lots of up and down, not really one big climb.
I’m basing this off of two years ago, i’m just assuming that it’s close to the same.
I also assumed Olympic.

and Sprint
The swim and bike are pretty much the same as silverman full distance(10,000’ on the bike), so probably about 5000’. You never really find a rhythm on the rollers, and they are not small. I used my road bike for silverman, but when I go back I may be on my tri bike. I think bike choice really depends upon wind, and how well you climb on your tri bike. Most of the climbs are power rollers and that take anywhere from 15sec to 5min to climb. Tyler Hamilton ran front and rear 808s on a cervelo P3.
The swim may have some pretty big swells if the wind is up and out of the NE like it usually is in november (I would hope that in april it is at least from a differnt direction). The run I heard, from a friend, is really hard as well, lots of ups and downs with some trails.
I did Pumpkinman last year and the bike covers much of the same course, without the nasty hills into Boulder City at the end. I will do it on my tri bike (Orbea Ordu) with compact cranks. I rarely used my granny gear last year and I’m not a good climber. I’d make sure you have some climbing gears, though.
Did it last year… it’s tough, but a nice way. Swim is v cold, so I’d wear a neo-cap. Bike is rolling, with not much flat, I don’t think there were many bike times under 3.00. I don’t think I had to get out of the saddle… as I recall the last hill is the worse, but pacing is key.
Run course may have changed, but the path up to the railroad tracks was pretty rocky, so make sure you have some decent tread, plus some energy left.
Anyway enjoy.
Thanks to all for your help and info!
Rage on!
