Someone said Tasha is recovering what’s the latest on her condition? I will PM you later.
Hi Julian and all -
Deanna told me about this thread, so I figured I’d jump on with an update AND to thank you all for your kind thoughts and good wishes. Seriously, you have no idea how touched I am.
So, as Deanna noted, I’m basically done with the big stuff, i.e. radiation, PT, etc. Unfortunately I still need to have reconstruction surgery, but the recovery time for that is kind of long so it might have to wait until fall, i.e. after the tri season. I, umm, signed up last June to do IronSpud (IMCDA), before the shit hit the fan so to speak, and I"m just stubborn enough to still plan on doing it. Even though I’ve just started training again. Should be interesting.
Right now I’m just taking drugs (aka FatSurly) that, well, make me fat, surly and tired. It’s a great combination.
As for the brain injury, I still have some balance issues and my memory is kind of shot, but thanks to my physical therapist trying out the Epley maneuver, I no longer have the crazy head spins, which is good. So can’t complain there.
Oh, and I’m still on the disabled list as far as playing hockey is concerned, though I should be able to get back to that this summer after I get the okay from my orthopedic surgeon. The combo of surgery/radiation/broken collarbone all on the right side has been…challenging, though better that way than having 2 bum sides.
And if anyone’s wondering at all, I do and have always had insurance, have paid up the wazoo for years to make sure I’m covered since I"m self-employed…but unfortunately I’ve discovered that the insurance companies seem to take great delight in trying to figure out how to NOT pay bills. I’ve had some very Kafkaesque conversations with them about their exceptions, exclusions, adjustments, etc. BCBS sucks.
Anyway, that’s the long and short of it. Right now I’m just trying to get my life back on track, get the work thing in hand, get into a shape that’s not “round,” and so on. And I really and truly do appreciate ALL the efforts that folks have made on my behalf, and all the good thoughts and so on. It’s sappy to say it, but it’s true - the tri community is composed of an incredible caring group of people. So thanks everyone, for everything.
Tasha
(P.S. to Tri-mom64: this year Tri-Shark is actually ON my birthday, so the big decision is: sash? tiara? Or…both!!! I know, the mind reels…)
