Radio Stations Advocating Violence Against Cyclists..Please Help with Info

I’m searching for more information on the history of this topic regarding the Clear Channel Communication Radio Network. CCC went this route with broadcasts in some of their major markets during the last 18 months or so. Ultimately, it was not pretty for CCC. A number of employee lost their jobs and CCC went to great lengths to support public awareness campaigns for cycling as well as supporting many cycling activities. This was to “attone” for their misdeeds and help to insure that their broadcasting license renewals would not be challenged by the cycling community. All this was no small expense for CCC.

I would like to be able to share information that is accurate with the prosecutor’s office regarding any involvement of law enforcement and prosecuting attorney offices in the markets that were plague by this problem previously. I don’t want to start at the bottom of the learning curve in the Detroit area. I don’t wish that the same mistakes of others to be repeated here again, but that the cycling community benefits from what was discovered to be successful in the past and perhaps can take this problem to the next level.

Wouldn’t it be an accomplishment if all broadcasters could be made aware of the consequences of such irresponsible actions? That they would think long and hard before embarking on this path again?

Thank you in advance for all your assistance.

I’m bumping this up for better visibility…

Having a hard time finding the exact link I’m looking for. Clear Channel gave $10,000 over the Cleveland incident. I read that the money is being controled by Ecocity Cleveland.

This is a link to a message board. I think if you posed your question here, you’ll get some helpful information. Chuck is listed as forum moderator, It’s a different Chuck.

This is a page entirely devoted to clear channel. It was set up by a local bike shop in Cleveland.

Hope this helps.

Chuck M,

Thank you so much for your assistance. The hubbub.com link was especially helpful and exactly the kind of information I was hoping to find. I haven’t had a chance to thoroughly search it yet, but it appears to include information about what occurred in other radio markets besides the Cleveland radio market. This will help significantly.

The clevelandbikes.org link didn’t appear to be working. The website appeared to be down or no longer operational. My ISP was unable to locate that site when I tried multiple times.

Thanks again, you have been most helpful.
