I drive a VW Toureg which obviously isn’t a full size SUV. I would like to be able to put my bike in the hatch space standing up (front wheel and seat removed for clearance of course). Is there a product made for this? If not how would I construct something like this?
Two suggestions, find a springloaded rack made for pick up trucks, or take a 2X4 and glue the loop side of a velcro strip to one side then mount a fork mount on the other side, should be able to do this for under $50 and hold 2 bikes. I do the same thing (2X4 option) in the back of my Jeep Grand Cherokee and have had no problem, Just make sure and mark your seat post.
I just cut an old 2X4 to the right length put some feluga (sp) cloth around it and bought a $9 bike mount from the store. Super easy to make and inexpensive.
