I like the fact that my Polar 720 records HR, Altitude, Cadence, Temperature, and Speed information. But, how to manage getting it off your wrist and on to the bike at T1 and back on your wrist at T2? I tried moving it while on the bike during a 1/2IM last year, but I was too scared to drop the watch or crash while performing the move. Pictures of elites often show them still wearing it on their wrist during the bike. Does that work?
Maybe I should wear the strap under my wetsuit, but leave the watch on bike. Just start recording during the bike.
I just leave my S710i on my wrist the whole time. If you have the speed sensor on your fork, and set to ‘high power’, you shouldn’t have a problem. You might have some problems with the cadence sensor though. I run a regular Avocet 45tt bike computer also. I look at it most of the time during the bike, just glancing at my HRM to HR info. I wouldn’t want to be monkeying around with my HRM during the race.
I use a Suunto HRM similar to your watch and have it on my wrist the whole time. I’ll wear the chest strap if it’s a wetsuit swim and wear the watch facing in so I can read it easily when in the aero’s. Why have it on your bike if you want it on the run.
I cranked up the power on both transmitters (cad and speed) speed is also on rear wheel.
I can wear 710 on my wrist entire time on aerobars and get data.
Once on the bike and awaay from T1 I usually rotate the face to the inside of my forearm. If you already have a screen set to show cad/spd/HR, you just have to hit the lower right button a couple of times to get right display screen…
I haven’t tried it myself but someone mentioned a few months ago in another thread that they put velcro on the bike mount which made mounting/unmounting a piece of cake.
velcro - but why? that’s one more thing to do either in T1/T2 and or whilst on the bike. If you can set something so that it works without moving crap around then do it…
I have a 720 and all I do is rotate the watch to the inside of my wrist so I can read it while I am down in the aero bars. I haven’t turned up the speed sensor to high because i haven’t needed to, yet.
I haven’t wore the watch with a wetsuit because I worry about being the guy looking like an ass because my wetsuit is stuck on during T1.
If anyone has an idea how to wear the watch with a wetsuit and still get the wetsuit off, I would appreciate the input.
