Alright so I finally get to move beyond the off-season…quick sprint race this weekend…looks like the course is going to be wet if not actually raining at race time…any thoughts on what wheels to run?? This course has a few fairly tight turns (one that you take at a decently high speed) and a few hills, not a boatload of climbing but enogh to get your attention…I have both a Renn disk and a Hed C2…both would be running Michelin Pro Race tires.
So I ask…which wheels should I run? And would you suggest tire pressure higher or lower?
Thanks!
Paul
Assuming you’re talking about TriZou, and assuming the bike course is the same as last year…
I’d use your lightest wheels - even if they are less aerodynamic.
That uphill at the beginning of each loop is pretty darn long. And, while the disc would help on the long downhill at the end of each loop, your limit is more likely to be either spinning-out or going as fast as you want for the conditions. (I’m a wuss on wet pavement.)
And, after seeing your bike at Show-Me State Games last year…
Take all that crap off your bike! The bike’s only 14 miles. If you flat, you’re f-ed anyway. No sense lugging any extra weight up that hill.
Have fun. I wish I was in town. I’d like to watch.

O.K. Steve…I’ll leave the rolling cooler at home! Really, except for a wing-mounter flat kit, I don’t carry anything in the rear for sprints (no bottles or anything)…I fill the aero bottle with a little Cytomax and go like heck…and the bento and everything else comes off.
I’m leaning towards running the Hed C2 as well both for weight and handling in the wetness…
Wish you were in town as well…have safe travels!
