Anybody out there heading to Sherwood, WI for the Aurora High Cliffs Tri this weekend? That first hill out of transition looks brutal…
You got my attention with “Brutal” I haven’t heard anything about the course other than what I read on the website. It didn’t sound that bad. Either way. Should be a fun weekend.

The Big EE will be there. I’ve been to that park before, but I can’t remember what the hill is like. The elevation profile on the web site makes it look pretty ugly. Kinda Wildflower-ish.
Can’t wait to meet Dave Scott. He’s leading a practice swim at 11 a.m. and giving a talk at the pasta dinner. That should be cool. This should be a good race – the area is cool, and Gloria West is a great race director.

O.K…maybe ‘brutal’ was a bit strong. Just re-checked the elevation profile - the hill still looks like a vertical wall, but it’s only 200’. You’re right - it should be a fun weekend! Looking forward to seeing Dave Scott and Heather Gollnick tear it up!
Right on! So far, I’ve been impressed with the organization - all the e-mail updates have been great, and the organized swim last weekend was also a great idea…too bad it’s a bit of a haul for me, otherwise I would have liked to join them. See ya’ in transition!
Well, I can die happy now. I got to meet and race with Dave Scott yesterday. He only beat me by a little over an hour. I almost had him!
What a cool deal – the Man comes out of retirement for a little first-year race in Appleton Wisconsin.
I got to talk to him at the pasta dinner and he was very cool. He was more interested in talking about my racing than his own. He posed for pictures, and was super friendly. And the guy damn near won the race – finished second in a pretty challenging half IM.
Very cool experience all around.

Cool! I got a chance to say howdy to Dave in the TA after the race - you’re right - what a cool guy - very approachable and great to talk to. He certainly didn’t seem to mind talking to us mortals, signing autographs and taking pictures - what a great ambassador for the sport. Did’ja get a peek at that new Griffen he was riding? SWEET! I think that race has a ton of potential to be a great one - got a few easily-fixed things they can do to get there. How ‘bout the wind?! The last 5 miles of the bike were brutal! I was bustin’ my butt to go 19 mph! The run course was awesome - I really liked the trail portions - nice and shaded, and plenty of volunteers out there. You’re right - it was a great experience and I’m also glad I went.
