Buy a 6 ft length of steel piping and route it directly into your flux capacitor. Nothing in the USAT rules that prohibits lightning propulsion … or is there?
Be sure to bike really closely to people who are taller than you are. Same for the run.
First of all, don’t believe the forecast anymore than you believe the guy dealing 3-card monty on the street corner. If you check three different sources, you’ll get three different answers and none of them will nail the forecast perfectly. It’s the Adirondack Mtns. The weather is a finicky mistress. Three years ago it was supposed to rain all day… it didn’t. Two years ago the forecast changed hourly. Last year they couldn’t even predict all the freakin’ rain that came.
As for lightning, keep your head down in the aero position on the bike and you won’t be the highest point around.
…or follow Metallica’s advice and Ride the Lightning!!!
Good luck. I’ll be cheering you on (rain or shine).

As Lee Trevino said, “Carry a 1-iron: not even God can hit a 1-iron.”
.
They won’t start the race in a storm, but once the race starts, the genie is out of the bottle. With 2000 athletes spread over 50+ miles of road, there isn’t a whole lot that they can do if a thunderstorm rolls in. I’ve raced in thundertorms twice and both times took the “hope for the best” approach. Most of the other racers did the same.
The bottom line is, you have to be responsible for yourself. If the conditions become uncomfortable you need to seek shelter and not wait for the race organizers to tell you what to do.

Ive raced alot but never in a thunderstorm…how does that work if severe thunderstorms roll in?
If a threatening storm approaches, race officials will sound a horn and everyone immediately stops, marks their position and buses are dispatched to move everyone to safety. An all clear will be sounded when the sun comes back out and you will be returned to your spot.
If you don’t hear a horn sound, just keep proceeding on course

Funny answers y’all. As I exited the first lap of last years swim in pouring rain I was grateful no thunder was heard. God forbid they one-lap the swim and ‘asterisk’ the race due to weather…letting you do the 112 and mary, only to have the half a swim monkey on your back.
What does that M Dot tattoo look like??
(Re-reading my Kitchen Pass…there was no fine print allowing a do-over should the course be modified due to the Adk weather wench)
Save yourself some grief and stay off Accuweather and Weather.com, it’s already been said enough. Pray that from 7AM-8:30AM, no thunder & lightning.
Good luck one and all…I’m handing out special needs bags on the bike and look forward to a fun day in the 95F heat and humidity…
There is hardly ever a lightning storm in the morning. Also, I figure that if you get struck by lightning in the middle of an IM you likely had it coming
Feel better?
