Racing in brand new running shoes

I know the old adage was to wear your shoes for a few weeks at least before racing, but is this relevant now, or just a throw back to days when stiff as a board shoes needed to be broken in? When I run in new shoes over the last few years they always feel great fro the box and seem to slowly deteriorate after that. Due to a mess up with an online order, I pick up a new pair of Newton racers this Thursday and have Vineman full Saturday. I know the sizing is correct - should I race in 'em?

Well you have from Thursday until Saturday. Can’t you at least go for a jog in them?

Regardless. I have done this many, many times. Never had a single problem. If you race without socks, or generally don’t run very much, there might be a blister danger.

A blister or a hot spot is really no big deal in anything up to 10-13 miles - you can tough it out if it gets bad. A full? I think there were some good shots of someone’s feet (crazy canuck’s) up here a while back that would give you pause…

For anything other than a full I’d say where them. On the other hand, these are Newton’s we are talking about, so I guess my real answer is to never wear those POS shoes…
