Racing and pet sitting

I am off to Morgantown,WV for the HFP’s Mountaineer Man 1/2 IM and the hotel the RD offered me doesn’t take pets.

I can’t get ahold of the pet sitters in my town and was wondering if anyone in the forum knows of options I might have. I also am interested in how much kennels usually charge. In case size matters I have a miniature, well behaved, miniature dachsund.

Thanks in advance,

Veterinarians usually offer a kennel service.
It isn’t quite as plush as a kennel, but it will be cheaper and easier to get into on short notice.

I haven’t used a kennel service for several years, but I know they aren’t cheap.

We also have a mini dachshund (wirehaired). We tend to take her everywhere in a little purse my wife carries (okay, sometimes I have to hold it for a while). Anyway, we have taken her to a few hotels that are not aware of it, but she never barks or makes messes. I know that isn’t the most ethical thing to do, but my wife likes the company while I’m racing. She got really pissed off the one time we boarded her.

Do some research on hotels, I am sure you can find some for a good price near the race sight that will take Pets.

I got a couple of comp’ed nights at the nice Radisson they have in Morgantown, so it wouldn’t make sense for me to get a different hotel. I called my vet and they offer boarding, so everything looks a GO right now. Thanks!

Ciao,

Just for future refernce, the Hampton Inn’s usually allow dogs. My husband comes to my races and we usually take the dog, also. I race and he and the dog have a nice day at the park. We have a standard Poodle, so I’m sure minature dogs wouldn’t be a problem.
