Racine Finish: Car on the run course

Yesterday in Racine…I was done and looking for some of the folks I coach to finish. A guy “with the band” at the finish drove his car right up to 100 yards from the finish and run turn around through all the runners.

I went and got the Racine cops and got the guy to move the car onto a hill. Most of the spectators just yelled at the guy. I saw/heard one racer punched the car hood hard as he went into the finish. He blocked the shortest route to the finish and the turn around. He said he had “all access” and flashed some Racine Park Dist. badge to me. I (just a racer) said to him, “That might give you access at other times, but right now you’re blocking the finishing area of one of the largest triathlons in the United States pal.” The parking lot he was trying to gain access to was also blocked - I think this was a feat of laziness as he said he had to “get things to my band”. Since they were already playing (poorly by the way) - I think he could have parked on top of the hill and carried the stuff down…but that would have been physical labor so as an American, I can see why he didn’t want to do it…

The cops made him move when the finishers started to tail off- he was on the hill for the rest of the race…smoking a cigar/cigarette.

So much for barricades huh?
