I did a race yesterday - don’t want to name names - but there was not one drop of ‘some’ type of sports drink to be found - not one single aid station (swim, bike or run) nor the post race party had any gatoraid (et al).
There was water at the aid stations and all sorts or soda afterwards - hell even a keg or two of beer - but NO sports drink.
This really pissed me off (ya a small metter, but still)
Does this happen at other races - do you think it odd?
I don’t think I was at teh same race (no beer) but i had the same experience yesterday. I would have liked a GU and some gatorade out there but it was a cheaper race. I no would make a point of checking this out before hand.==it is unusual

It’s Z’s fault. They had beer? And you are complaining?
I raced a 1/2IM last year and the same thing happened. The RD said that they had trouble getting the drink they’d advertised into Canada from the US. Apparently it was too hard from him to go to MEC and get a couple of extra-large cans of Gatorade mix for the <200 people at the race so it was strictly H2O at the aid stations. Good thing it rained because it would have been a bit of a disaster otherwise. They also didn’t pay out the prize money they’d offered, saying that he’d accidentally left the cheques in his office. Surprisingly enough the race or the company don’t exist anymore.
Did a race one time that ended up having no fluids period. Not even after the race. They ran out of water at teh aid stations and unless you finished in the top 30% the water was all gone after the race as well.
To make matter worse the race was a pool start, started 45 minutes late which meant you stood in line for a good hour before the race started. The bike course was 6 or 7 miles short, out of a supposed 15 and the run course was short by around a half a mile on a supposed 5K.
The shortened course I suspect was a good thing as if it had been the full length without fluids plus the weight there probably would have been some medical issues as it was HOT too.
They did give out coupons for a free Culvers ice cream cone though.
Ya it did piss me off - $90 for an Oly, not a rinky dink race, alway very hot and humid at this race, - I’m not asking for the world - but come on - if the RD can find a way to have custom made awards, kegs and caterers (sp?) then they need to find a way to have gatoraid - really get rid of all that other stuff and you would never hear me complain - but I think not having a sports dring onthe run course is a problem.
ok, but did you have a good time? see some hot chicks? good bike porn? if so, let it go. remember next year…don’t let it eat you up, you can’t change it.
Did a half IM in Utah over the weekend and the web site advertised 3 feed stations on the bike. Well there was one at 18 mile point!!! Ran out of fluid on the bike at mile 40, in over 100F temps. Tried to run but collapsed. IV is a wonderful addition to my nutrition plan.
Nothing advertised in any way (guess that should have been a clue)
I have done this race the past three years - always had sports drink
the watter was iffy - only three aid station ont he 10K - more like 5 or 6 last year, only one or two people at the aid stations and unfortunately they did not seem to be trained OR they were rationing H2O. I was in the top 10% so I could get my cup.
Yes I had some on the bike - good point to be prepared.
I guess my grip was with the idea the RD could spend $$ (or get a sponsor to pay) for beer and very nice custom awards - but no sports drink.
