Race wheels for vineman half and kentucky full?

I was looking for advice as to a good setup of race wheels for these two events. I will be renting from race day wheels-I can’t afford my own.
thanks

Both are fast courses I would go with a rear disk and deep front like an 808.

Edited to add that we did both of these races in 2007. Used disk/808 combo at Vineman (unfortunately disk was destroyed when I was hit by a car at mile 55). Did Kentucky 5 weeks later with a set of Blackwell 100’s, would have run a disk on the back if one had been available.

For VM I agree with Mike. Go with the fastest combo you can get.

I rented from them and did the disc and 808 combination-very nice on Vinemane 70.3 course.
I do not know the Kentucky course.

I ran a disk/808 at Vineman and went 2:31, great wheel combo…

I did the first IMKY on borrowed 808s and rolled a 5:10. I would ride the same set-up again. It is mainly flat, but unless the course has changed there’s an out-and-back with some short steep climbs. I am 175-180lbs and fear I would flex a disc on the climbs and rub the frame. You could certainly ride a disc, just be prepared to spin up a few short climbs.

I have done the past two IM KY on 808’s with a wheel cover. I like the rigidity of the 808 on the rear for the climbs.

808s were great in IMKY for me as well.

Can you explain to me what that means, please? I’m doing IMKY (my first) and am thinking of borrowing my friend’s race wheels-a disk in the rear and HED in the front (just not sure what exactly it is right now) I plan on riding them this weekend in a century but I’m curious if I should consider something else. So I guess I’m asking for some advice here. Does weight play a role in whether a disk is good for you or not? Are disks better used on flat courses than hilly?
