I will be “racing” my first ironman this September 25 (Ultramax at Lake of the Ozarks) and would greatly appreciate some input regarding a race schedule that will leave me strong and fresh. I am a clydesdale (6’3", 215lbs.) who has completed three half-ironmans. My fastest time was 5:39 last September on just three months of serious training. I have never done more than two tri’s in a season. My current plan is to race an olympic distance on 5/2, a marathon on 6/6, (maybe) another olympic on 6/26, and a half-ironman on 7/18 before I try the ironman.
Does this schedule make sense? In particular, I am concerned that the half 9 weeks before the full may be too much too close together. Any thoughts?
