Race schedule - 1/2 Vineman then Caliman?

I’m going to be…participating…in the Vineman 1/2 next week. I have a real itch to do a full IM this year (turning the big 3-0). I’ve done 3 total 1/2 IM, about 5 Olympics (including 2 Escapes), and a handful of sprints in the past 3 years. So, I’m looking at the Caliman IM. I’ve ruled out Silverman as I don’t feel like 1. traveling to Nevada or 2. doing close to 10k feet of climbing in my first IM. Is anyone else doing both these events or is the collective thought that they’re too close together? I plan on a sub 6 Vineman, and would be happy with a sub 13 IM.

Hinds57 is doing both - keep bumping this and once he is done recovering from this morning’s run, he will reply…

Dude that run hurt. Not sure what made you do 6:15s at the END of a run!

I thing it’s a great idea. I did the Caliman half in 04 before my first full in CDA. You get to test out your race plan and nutrition, find out your week spots and have some time to fine tune your training before the full. The Caliman full will be as flat as any race you will see, about 10k less then Silverman. The only issue will be the wind in Davis cow country.

See you there.

Dave

Go for it. That would be a great double.

Just chiming in. The Caliman is going to be my first HIM. It’s my first season, so we’ll see where it leads! See ya there!

Lets see. I have the Team in faith OD on Sunday.

I have the 1/2 vineman on the July 31st.

I have the TBF for real on August 6th.

I have the Folsom international on August 13.

Maybe the Team in Faith OD on August 21st.

I have the LOP Tri on September 3rd.

Am considering the Granite bay Tri on September 11th.

I have signed up for my first IM at the Caliman on September 17th.

I am 48 years old. I have done 9 tri’s so far this season and am still moving.

YOu had better be able to do both.

Dave

h2oFun - Good on ya!

Thanks everyone else, looks like I’m not insane…or at least not alone in my insanity

Since we are all Type A’s, what do we know about limits.

Now, one thing I have found is I am not training as much or as hard now since I seem to be either recovering from a race, and resting for a race. I have much more run racing as my training, than training for my races.

My goal, since I am last in the water, is to fininsh the 1/2 vineman without a bike crash. And I am still trying to break 5:20.

I heard a good rule of thumb for the IM time. Take you 1/2 time, double and add an hour. So yes, I will try to break 13 at the IM, assuming I survive the bike and can run after.
