First off yes I did search the forum (seriously…I’m proud of this…I usually forget about this step), but not seeing any reports from the race. I’ll be doing it as a lead up to IMCDA this year and would love to hear thoughts/experiences on how it was run (I’ve heard Toughman, overall, runs a really tight ship), any thoughts on the swim/bike/run. Anyhow, if you feel like sharing your experience or a link that you might have on your interwebs blog I’d love to hear about it.
I’m prepared for a cold weather race gear-wise/experience-wise.
I believe this year is the 2nd running of the race so no wonder there is not a ton out there.
I raced it last year And plan on racing again this year. This was my first 70.3 so I have nothing to compare it too but I thought it was very well run. There was a nasty thunderstorm 30 minutes before the start but it passed and everything ran smoothly. There is a large hill right at the start of the bike and run so you hit it a few times since they are both two loop courses, but the rest isn’t terribly hilly. Hopefully this helps.
It does, thanks for sharing. Looking at the elevation maps it looks relatively flat (not so great for a lead in to CDA, but we dont have any mountains around here anyhow…so what can ya do). Coincidentally this will be my first 70.3 as well. Glad to hear it treated you well as a 1st.
The best thing we can say about Toughman Indiana is the race team itself; these folks LOVE their city! Ex: The bike course captain shut down his company the Thursday before the race in 2013 and rented weed-eaters for the entire bike course…every single corner!
AutoCar is an awesome sponsor lead by triathlete James Johnston; a host of triathletes on the 30 person race team including John Dils, a great post race cook-out, black long sleeve finisher shirt, new finisher medal posting-up soon, Sprint Tri/Du that morning as well and ToughKids Richmond the next morning for kids 4-14 at the same venue!
Plus a little bit of half production history from America Multi-Sport; Worlds and Nationals might help make for a great day!
See you in Richmond on May 31…just 45 min. east of Indy!
