Race Report - I Cheated and Got Faster

Did Diamond in the Rough today. International distance race (1mi S/27mi B/5mi R). Nice race - did it last year too. Very hilly.

Got a penalty. My first. Which is total bull crap. Talked to the official - he proceeded to yell at me why I was wrong - I finally asked him exactly what he saw and he said… oh, I didn’t see it. Moron. Then he directed me to the guy that made the call. This guy was much nicer and explained in detail what happened. Apparently, I passed someone and didn’t move to the right fast enough. My bad.

I know its in the rules… but, can someone tell me why again??? Apparently if I had just moved over a foot or two I wouldn’t have gotten a penalty. I try and be conscious of my surroundings and try not to make mistakes… oh well. First time for everything.

As for my times:

Swim: Last year - 26:18 This year - 28:35 (last year wetsuits were allowed… this year no wetsuits allowed)

Bike: Last year - 1:26:53 This year 1:21:13

Run: Last year - 42:17 This year 35:36

Overall: Last year 2:38:46 This year 2:30:05 (with 2 minute penalty)

All in all a very nice race. Nice people. But, I could have done without the penalty. The only downer of the day. And, to those of you that my biking affected… sorry.

It’s called blocking. By not moving over you are preventing people from passing you while still keeping to the right of the yellow line (or in the proper lane). Once you’ve had some boneheaded kid pass you on the right you’ll understand.

Good times and congrats.
