Race registration refund?

WWSTD? Is a race refund deserved if I was too ill to race? The race I was signed up for was on 6/30/07. I had the flu and it knocked the crap out of me from 6/19-7/2. The registration details were as follows:

Refund 100% until March 15th, 2007
Refund $50.00 until May 12th, 2007

       No refunds after May 12th, 2007  
       Entries cannot be transferred at any time.I signed up fairly late,on 6/15 or so, so I'm not sure the above rightfully applies or not. I do know that a friend that was registered, who crashed her bike in a race prior to 6/30 did get a refund from the RD.

There should be a HTFU tax whereby if you don’t do the race, you pay an extra fee in addition to the registration.

So, you signed up a day after getting sick, which was a month after the last date for a refund and you actually want (a) sympathy and (b) your refund. Um, I say hike up your big boy under-roos and deal with it.
