Race or fight

Watching Two chicks from Arkansas or East Texas fight, Tibbs, IS NOT HOT.

The Muncie Endurathon (HIM) is 3 weeks before Steelhead. Would that fit your schedule better?

Or maybe Pineman? it’s 6 weeks after Steelhead.

Hmmm. Good initial question.

I can’t give a good answer since I don’t know much about fighting at all.

So, do Steelhead. It’s a very cool race.

Fighting is a weird mindset I have a tough time identifying with. Maybe because I was in the military. My view is you only do it when you absolutely have to. It isn’t (IMO) recreation per se’. It’s a martial pursuit.

There is something in Sun Tzu’s “Art of War” and in the “Tao de Ching” by Lao Tzu about armies hiding their weapons, not having parades and not making a fanfare about fighting. There is also a passage in the “Tao de Ching” thats reads something about about fighting when you don’t have to- somethig to the effect that you will “only hurt your hand”.

Anyway. Do the race. It will be cool. We’re all going!

A few years ago when I was about your age, I had my last wrestling match. I wrestled in HS, but ran in college. I continued to volunteer my time to wrestle with HS kids after college. It helped most of the younger kids and it was fun. I did this off and on for many years, especially since my boys were getting into it as little kids.

Anyway onto that last wrestling match. I work part-time at a local university and had a wrestler in my class. One thing lead to another, and before I knew it, we had planned to hook up and “roll around” as wrestlers like to say. He outweighed me by 40lbs, but I did pretty well until he came down on my ribs like people had done many times. This time was different, he might have just caught me right, but it was a bad deal. Seems like it took a long time to heal and at my age I decided that it didn’t make sense to jeopardize an entire season of endurance training for a few minutes of wrestling. I guess I have retired officially - expect with my kids, and since they are getting bigger, faster and stronger I will probably have to retire totally one of these days.
