Race experiences - 1/2 IM

So are they called just 70.3 races now, or can I still call them 1/2 IM’s? Anyhow, wondering about suggestions for that distance in April / May / June 2006. Preferably east coast, and no need for Mdot. I am firmly MOP.

Which ones are your faves, considering venue, scenery, organisation, competition, accomodations, and other things to do.

Thanks.

Bueller? Bueller?

Eagleman in Maryland in the second weekend of June is a great race, it’s full already though.

Try looking at www.trifind.com

70.3 refers to those races associated with IM races. Other races are free to call their races whatever the heck they want.

Thanks,

I’ve looked on trifind, but just wanted more along the lines of which ones people really enjoyed.

Musselman Half is a Great Race. Awesome organization and Geneva, NY is a nice quaint town. My wife and I drove from New York City and had a great time there.

East coast in May would be the Gulf Coast Triathlon, always a good race. I think it is on the 13th this year:

It’s usually hot as hell but is always a well supported race, and also usually a lot of cute chicks around.

If you want a tough race, but extremely well run, try Georgia Rock-n-Roll man in early June in Macon. I think I will probably do it again this year.

I noticed that this year’s swim times were pretty slow. Can you explain what happened race day? Last year, I recall that the swim had a shallow start and finish which resulted in a lot of walking. The course was to be changed for 2005. Did they get it wrong with a little extra distance?

I am personally curious as I am considering Musselman this year.

Yeah, good point. Swim times were slow because it gets a bit shallow as you exit the water. The shallowness does not effect the majority of the swim, but rather the last 100 yards or so. My swim time was slower than my actual “swim.” People started walking it rather than swimming all the way to the shore. If there is one down side to the course it is that last portion of the swim. The rest of the course is great and the organization is top notch.
