Race Day Tires

I have a set of Pro Race 2 that I use only for racing. They have only 250 or so miles on them now. I have had one flat from a pretty big nail, But other than that they are pretty much new. So, I got to thinking after reading Bikesport’s article. I am doing IMCdA next year with only one oly between now and then. Should I remove my tires and let them sit until IMCdA? Do they lose some of their reliabilty if they are just hanging in the closet? I am not sure if the rubber breaks down or not. Is there a proper storage technique? I don’t want to take any chances for IM, but I also don’t want to just waste these tires just sitting around.

I didn’t plan on buying new ones next year, I just use them to race with. I just got to thinking and that usually leads to bad things.

So, take them off and save them for next year’s races or ride them until death and buy new ones for the big race.

BTW I hate spending money.

Thanks for your advice,

You really picked the wrong sport!
Just ride the tires and buy new ones next year before your first race. If you really want to try and save them, try something like 303 protectant on them if you are worried about dry rot. But, considering you already have a nail hole in one, I would just ride them. If you want to keep them though, they will probably be fine either on the wheels or off.
