Race Day Morning - Kona

Aloha, 4:30am Kona time. For obvious reasons, this will be short. Had a couple of great meetings yesterday. Two points…first, there are some amazing things on the horizon for the sport of triathlon. I’m sorry I can’t give much detail, but I’m sure it’ll become public soon enough. Secondly, the ‘Rookie’, Simon Lessing, is making a lot of people on this island (and at the start line) very nervous. Veterans of the sport (20+ years) swear they’ve never seen anything like it. Will he go off the front? Will he hang and kill the last 10k? This could be one of the best races on the men’s side this event has ever seen. Went to dinner last time, and it was very cliche…the calm before the storm. By 8:30pm, other than a few Euros at Lava Java, Alii Drive was basically deserted. Just stepped outside this morning and it seems less humid and a bit cooler, but than can change drastically when the sun comes up. The tradewinds have kicked in and should be about 10-15mph, max. Oh yeah, TDB is, in fact, riding a Madone, saw him riding to check-in yesterday. Lessing is on his Soloist from IMLP, and Lori is on a ‘Special’-ized. Hopefully, IM live will get some shots of her ride, a’la Paula from the 90s. I’m off to the pier, aloha.
