Anyone use Race Day Boost by Hammer Nutrition or similiar products? Curious of upsides and any downsides?
I’ve been using RDB for two years now. The research on phosphate loading is mixed. Phosphates are part of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and creatine phosphate (CP). There is research suggesting that phospate loading may increase intracellular phosphate levels and thereby increase oxidative metabolism, thereby acting as a lactate buffer and increasing endurance. However, recent research has called into question the benefits of the loading protocol. That said, there appears to be no downside risks.
Since you’re still using it (two years) can we ass-u-me that you fill like you’re seeing positive results, or are you still testing?
I have a hard time “sorting the fly sh** from the pepper”, so to speak. I try and give myself every conceivable legal advantage come race day. This includes a supplement regiment that consists of Race Day Boost and another Hammer product, Race Caps Supreme. I have found that the combination of consistent training, good nutrition, good pacing and proper supplementation has allowed me to race at or near my potential (however limited it may be) each time I go out on the course. That said, I only race a limited number or races (two to three a year) so it is hard for me to pinpoint the source of good race day performance, since one can chalk it up to such a myriad of factors, including luck. As such, I look at what the pros and top AGers are doing, because they are the ones who can tell at the margins what gives them the edge, and I find a lot of them as using phosphate loading as part of their prerace protocol. Again, I see no downside to it assuming you use it as directed.
As an aside, I actually can feel the difference of incorporating Race Caps into my training. If I had to choose one supplement, that would be it.
Thanks, I’m big on Hammer stuff, and I have a jar of RDB, I just haven’t used it yet, because the whole deal about remembering to dose it for several days just overwhelms me. I’m nursing an injury and expect to DNF on my next race, but one of these days I’m going to use the stuff.
Nice to know that pros are using it (or something like it).
Race Day boost? try this new stuff called EPO, it does wonders for people, you just might win the Ironman World Championship, or get a cycling Gold Medal at the Olympics!!!
