Reading about R Kelly’s latest troubles, why is Homeland Security the agency that seems to be heading it up, or I guess on a more basic level why would they be involved at all?
Being a pedophile, and all the other stuff he’s accused of wouldn’t seem to fall under the auspices of Homeland Security on the face of it.
I don’t know all the details, but lots of federal agencies police the same crimes albeit in different territories in a sense. If Kelly’s crimes involved the international borders (i.e., having girls transported across one or both) then Homeland Security wouldn’t be inappropriate. A good friend of mine is a Border Patrol agent and he takes down human traffickers, biker gangs, etc. He hadn’t touched (no pun intended) an immigrant issue in a couple years until “the Caravan” reached San Diego and his team was called in to supplement the line agents there. Another anecdote: Recall an ICE operation in California(?) maybe a year ago. It was televised when a bunch of neighbors (I think it was in the Bay Area) protested the ICE presence and were chanting things about leaving those poor immigrants alone. Well, it turned out that the ICE operation was to bust a human trafficking ring, not immigrants per se.
